Student station grabs top prize

York University's student-run radio station has been named the best student station in the UK.

Jo Ellis, manager of University Radio York (URY), received the award for Student Radio Station of the Year at an event in London.

The awards were organised by the Student Radio Association and Radio 1.

As part of the prize, URY - which has been broadcasting since 1968 - will be heard on BBC Radio 1 in the early hours of Christmas Day
