Bid to increase affordable homes
Three local authorities have launched a joint project to tackle the effects of rising house prices in the region.

The Golden Triangle partnership - the housing and planning authorities of Leeds, Harrogate and York councils - hosts a meeting on Tuesday.

More than 100 policy makers will gather in Leeds to study a report by the team, urging more local liaison.

House prices in the region have risen by 155% over the past 10 years. Flats and maisonettes have gone up by 216%.

The report "Making it Work" is the result of a 10-month study of existing housing authority practice and aims to increase the supply of affordable housing through more consistent policies and streamlined working.

The team says key outcomes of the report are expected to increase supply of affordable housing; create more efficient handling of planning applications with an affordable housing element; and improve value for money with public subsidies.
