Armed police were involved in a four-hour siege at a house in a village in North Yorkshire.
Officers were called to the property in Hunmanby, near Filey, late on Wednesday afternoon after reports that a man was threatening to harm himself.
"We had telephone contact with the man and after about four hours successfully negotiated him out of the property," a North Yorkshire Police spokesman said.
"With assistance from armed officers he was detained without injury to anyone."
The man is being held at Scarborough police station.
Police thanked local residents for their patience as the area was cordoned off during the incident.
