Public have say on £120m designs
Scarborough's North Bay
The development will change the face of Scarborough's North Bay
Detailed plans for the first phase of a £120m development which would change the face of Scarborough's North Bay forever have been unveiled.

Northallerton-based Benchmark Leisure already has outline planning permission for The Sands project.

For the next three weeks, residents can have their say on the designs which include holiday apartments, shops and a new water park and leisure complex.

Council officials will then decide whether to grant planning permission.

The Corner Cafe, Kinderland and Atlantis Waterpark are the first three sites to be considered by councillors.

We've always been ahead of the game and that's the way we intend to stay
Chairman of tourism Councillor David Jeffels

If plans are approved they would provide an extensive indoor and outdoor waterpark, woodland holiday accommodation, beachside facilities and a range of bars, shops and restaurants.

Chairman of tourism Councillor David Jeffels said the development was crucial for the seaside resort.

"We are in a very competitive business, not just from overseas but from the British resorts in general and we think that this scheme will put us on the map nationally and internationally as well.

"We've been in the holiday business in Scarborough for years. We've always been ahead of the game and that's the way we intend to stay."
