Hundreds attend funeral of verger
York Minster
Mr Angus spent 25 years working at the Minster
Hundreds of mourners paid their respects at the funeral of a York Minster verger who fell to his death from one of the church's towers.

John Angus, 59, who lived in the Bootham area, had worked at the cathedral for 25 years.

Mr Angus fell from the north west tower on Sunday 27 February.

Keith Jones, the Dean of York, said the verger was a man of quiet dignity who had given no indication that anything was wrong.

Mr Jones said: "He has always been a very creative person, a writer of poems and a man of quiet dignity and charm.

"He was a genuine, sweet, imaginative person who was diligent and careful in what he did.

"He was a private person and very modest. He was a pleasure to work with and a true friend of the Minster."
