House damaged in city bus crash
Engineers at the crash scene
The damage to the house is being assessed
A bus has crashed into a house in York, badly damaging the property and a van parked outside.

It happened at the junction of Lawrence Street and James Street, close to the city centre, on Tuesday morning.

The single-deck First bus had just left the depot in James Street when it ploughed into the end-of-terrace house, demolishing one of its walls.

There were no passengers on the bus and the driver is being treated for shock. Nobody in the house was injured.

Structural engineers from City of York Council were called to assess the damage to the house.

The fire service was called to help deal with a burst gas main.

Peter Edwards from First York said investigations were taking place.

"We have no idea at the moment why the accident happened," he said.
