York's Jorvik Viking Festival opens on Friday, for two weeks of events to celebrate the city's Viking history.
Around 400 children from four primary schools will officially launch the twentieth annual festival.
They will be performing a Viking saga before parading in their costumes through the streets of York.
Other events include a re-enactment of the Battle of Stamford Bridge in 1066 when invaders from Norway were defeated by King Harold's army.
