A woman died after losing control of her car which crashed and burst into flames, police say.
The accident closed a section of the A64 York bypass for about six hours on Saturday afternoon.
North Yorkshire Police said the victim, who has not been named, was driving a Rover car which veered off the road at Grimston Bar.
The eastbound carriageway was closed between the A19 and the A1079. Police are appealing for witnesses.
