Fire 'almost wrecks' stately home
A North Yorkshire stately home has been almost destroyed by fire, the fire service has said.

The fire at Allerton Castle near Knaresborough started just after 0200 GMT on Saturday.

Sixty firefighters were at the scene. The fire service said the roof and first floor of the house had collapsed.

A fire service spokesman said no-one had been injured. No further details about the cause or extent of the damage were immediately available.
