Home alone mother appears on TV
Elaine Walker and Ali Murat
Mrs Walker said she was in love with Ali Murat
A mother who abandoned her 15-year-old daughter to be reunited with a man she met on holiday in Turkey has appeared on television in her adopted country.

Elaine Walker, 45, shocked the village of Redmire in the Yorkshire Dales when she left her child to move to Antalya.

North Yorkshire Social Services said the teenager was safe and well and staying with friends.

Speaking to a Turkish television crew, Mrs Walker said she had fallen in love with her boyfriend, Ali Murat.

I did everything I could and got back within three weeks. I came back to stay with Ali because I love him

Mrs Walker was not asked about her decision to leave her daughter home alone in North Yorkshire.

Instead, she talked about how she met Mr Murat, apparently unaware of the furore back in her home village.

"We really liked each other and saw each other every day and when I went back to England I promised I would come back because I want to be with Ali.

"I did everything I could and got back within three weeks. I came back to stay with Ali because I love him."

North Yorkshire Police and social services had been attempting to trace Mrs Walker in Turkey.

A force spokesman said on Monday the police position remained unchanged and it was still not clear what action - if any - would be taken against Mrs Walker.
