800 pigs perish in farm fire
A fire at a farm in North Yorkshire has left 800 pigs dead, according to the fire service.

Firefighters were called to Whitwell Grange in Lower Dunsforth, near Boroughbridge, at 0530 GMT on Sunday.

The buildings where the pigs were kept were said to be well alight when the fire crews arrived and they were unable to save any of the animals.

Fire engines from Easingwold and Boroughbridge were involved in tackling the flames.

A spokesman for North Yorkshire Fire Service said an investigation is under way into the cause.
