Calendar Girls has proved a hit British comedy
|
The Calendar Girls film telling the story of North Yorkshire Women's Institute members who stripped off for charity has taken nearly $4m in the US.
Box office figures for the weekend show the film earned $3.9m (£2.15m) placing it in the top 10, but in ninth place.
The film follows the women's plan to raise money for a cancer charity after a member's husband died of leukaemia.
The Calendar Girls film was largely shot in the Yorkshire Dales near the homes of the Rylstone WI members.
The film opened across the UK in September to excellent reviews and made its American debut in December in New York and Los Angeles.
