Police are searching for three young men seen hanging a dog from a tree by its collar in North Yorkshire.
The Staffordshire-type dog was left hanging for about two minutes while the youths bounced the branch up and down.
Witnesses say they were horrified by the act of cruelty, which happened late on Thursday night outside a residential home on Granby Road, Harrogate.
The dog's ordeal only ended after the youths realised they were being watched and took it down.
They shouted "sorry" at shocked witnesses before putting the dog on its lead and running off in the direction of Kanresborough Road.
North Yorkshire Police are now investigating the incident and are looking for three young men, aged about 16, and wearing baseball caps and sports gear.
