Calendar Girls gets northern premiere
Julie Walters and Dame Helen Mirren
The stars were attending their second premiere in 24 hours
Stars including Dame Helen Mirren and Julie Walters were in Yorkshire on Wednesday night for the northern premiere of Calendar Girls.

Just 24 hours after a star-studded London premiere, the cast and members of the Rylstone Women's Institute, who provided the inspiration for the film, arrived in Leeds for an equally glitzy performance.

The Disney film is based on the story of how the women from North Yorkshire stripped off for a WI calendar to raise almost £600,000 for charity.

Calendar Girls has already been tipped for worldwide success, following early rave reviews.

But lead actress Dame Helen was keen to play down rumours of a rift between the original WI members.

Five of the 11 Rylstone and District WI members decided at an early stage that they did not want anything to do with the film.

Dame Helen said: "I bumped into one of the women who decided not to be involved in a tea shop while we were filming.

"She was absolutely charming and wished us the best of luck with the film."
