Man bailed over Wymondham Market Cross fire

A man has been arrested and bailed on suspicion of arson following a fire at a historic building in a Norfolk market town.

The fire was discovered in one of the timber supports in the octagonal Market Cross in Wymondham on Tuesday evening, It was extinguished by a shop worker.

Some minor damage was caused to the structure, which was built after 1616 and Grade I listed.

Police said a local man, aged 18, was arrested by a safer neighbourhood team.

Insp James Brown thanked the shopkeeper for his prompt action.
