County examines lights switch-off

Residential street lights in parts of Norfolk could be switched off overnight in a bid to save money.

The council spends £2m each year on street lighting and the proposal is to switch off lights in quiet residential streets between midnight and 0500 GMT.

A report to councillors said this could only happen in quiet residential streets in low crime areas.

The report said the move could save more than £30,000 and help meet carbon reduction targets.
