Serious sexual assault on woman

A young woman has been subjected to a serious sexual assault in an alleyway in Great Yarmouth.

The attack happened near Albion Road in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The victim, a young woman, was walking along the road when she was approached by a man and engaged in conversation with him.

He then pushed her into an alleyway and sexually assaulted her. The victim is currently being cared for by her friends, said Norfolk Police.

'Traumatic experience'

Officers are keen to speak with a man who was seen in the area at the time, who was white, wearing a white t-shirt and black trousers.

Investigating officer Det Ch Insp Jes Fry said: "We are at the early stages of the investigation and in the process of establishing exactly what happened.

"The victim has suffered a traumatic experience and is being questioned by specially trained officers.

"Offences such as this are extremely rare and we are working with colleagues to help reassure the local community.

"I would ask anyone living or working in the area who saw anyone acting suspiciously or heard anything to contact police as soon as possible."

Anyone with information is asked to contact the major investigation team at Norfolk Police.
