New home for bailed out donkeys

Julie Bassett with Lucky
Julie Bassett welcomes Lucky the donkey to its new home

Two donkeys facing slaughter in Europe are settling into their new home after being bailed out by a Norfolk couple.

George and Lucky were on a "fattening farm" in France waiting to be transported elsewhere before Julie and Ken Bassett paid £1,500 for the pair.

The couple, who run Little Tinkers sanctuary, currently have 20 ponies.

Mr Bassett said: "We have wanted a donkey for a while so the chance to rescue one from the butcher's hook is a double bonus for us."
