Tests follow baby's cardiac death

A post-mortem examination is to be carried out on a baby boy who died after suffering a suspected cardiac arrest at a shopping centre in Norfolk.

Ambulance staff treated the boy in the Chapelfield Shopping Centre in Norwich.

The eight-week-old infant was taken to the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

Police said the death was not being treated as suspicious. The tests will determine the cause of death.

An ambulance service spokeswoman said: "We were called by security staff to reports an eight-week-old baby was in cardiac arrest outside an HMV store."

An ambulance crew was sent to the Chapelfield Shopping Centre on Thursday evening.

"The baby was being worked on by a community first responder," the ambulance spokeswoman said.

"Paramedics attempted to resuscitate the baby as he was taken to hospital."

Chapelfield was open for late night shopping at the time.

The coroner has been informed of the death.
