Health chief resigns after review

A primary care trust boss has resigned after his organisation was given a poor review by the Healthcare Commission.

The commission said Great Yarmouth and Waveney PCT was weak at patient service and managing finances, and it had failed to maintain previous standards.

Bernard Williamson, the trust's chair since 2006, has now resigned. Interim chairman Keith Crews was appointed.

Mr Williamson said: "I feel this will allow the trust the opportunity to move forward to address the issues raised."

'Learning lessons'

He added: "This will also allow me time to follow a number of activities in my personal life that have been subsumed by the fast pace and demanding changes in the NHS."

Mike Stonard, chief executive of the PCT, said: "The PCT is committed to learning the lessons arising from the results.

"Staff have already addressed many of the actions necessary to ensure compliance next year."

The position will be advertised in November.
