Campaigners are angry and frustrated about the closures

The Post Office has announced that almost 50 of its branches in Norfolk will be closed while others will be replaced by outreach centres.

The Post Office said the cutbacks were necessary to make the service sustainable and most people will still be within one mile of a post office.

Three branches earmarked for closure have been saved.

They are Beeston village store branch, Lovells, in Market Place, New Buckenham and Vauxhall Street branch in Norwich.

The move is part of wider proposals to reduce the number of branches nationwide by up to 2,500.

The Post Office is now proposing the closure of New Costessey branch in Norwich Road and a six-week consultation period will begin on 8 July.

In addition, six branches will be replaced by outreach services.
