Birdsong CD helps rescue starling

A baby starling trapped in the wall of a Norfolk house has been rescued after being played a CD of birdsong.

The bird was one of a family nesting in the roof of the home of Pamela Simone in King's Lynn. He fell into the wall cavity and was heard in the kitchen.

Mrs Simone's family tried to break into the wall with a drill, a hammer and even an angle grinder, but to no avail.

Mrs Simone then found the CD to play. An hour later the bird was coaxed out and was sitting next to the stereo.

'Worth the damage'

The bird is now recovering at RSPCA East Winch Wildlife Centre.

He was dehydrated but is now doing well and will be released when he is strong enough to feed himself.

Alison Charles, RSPCA wildlife centre manager, said: "It's amazing that this starling survived for three days without food or water.

"It is thanks to this family that he is alive and well today - they really went above and beyond what many people would do to make sure their feathered guest got the best chance."

Mrs Simone said: "It was worth the damage to the cupboard and wall, just to know that he's all right and is going to recover."
