Ex-councillor faces sex charges

A Conservative Party worker has appeared in court charged with sex offences and assault on girls under 16.

Stephen Mullins, 52, a member of the Norwich North Conservative Association, is charged with rape, two counts of indecent assault and two of assault.

He made no plea at Norwich Crown Court and was remanded in custody until 4 July for a plea and directions hearing.

Mr Mullins, a former Hellesdon parish councillor, is suspended from the Tory group until the case is concluded.

It was alleged in court the offences took place over a five-year period, but only came to light following a police investigation.

Although the victims are now adults, each was aged under 16 at the time of the alleged incidents.
