Thai woman was bought for £9,000

A Thai woman has admitted paying £9,000 to bring another Thai female into the UK to work as a prostitute.

Norwich Crown Court jailed Ubonrat Saosiri for six months for arranging for a Thai national to come to the UK for sexual exploitation.

The victim had been told she had to work in Great Yarmouth to repay a debt of £24,000 for bringing her to Britain. Saosiri, of no fixed address, will be handed to the immigration authorities at the end of her sentence.

The court was told the offence happened between January 2005 and March 2006.

Her defence lawyer said Saosiri had limited involvement in the offence which had been arranged by her partner.

Judge Peter Jacobs said Saosiri's role had been to obtain a bogus visa for the woman.
