Two arrested over fatal car crash

Two men have been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving after a crash that killed a man and left five others hurt.

Police said the men were driving north in a silver BMW coupe when it collided with a blue Ford Escort heading south.

The crash on Saturday happened on the A12 dual carriageway at Hopton near the border of Norfolk and Suffolk.

The wife and three children of the 38-year-old man from Northamptonshire who died, are being treated in hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

The woman, 40, and the couple's children - aged 14, 10 and two - had to be cut free from the wreckage by firefighters.

Police said the no more details about the deceased would be released until his next of kin has been informed.

A passenger in the BMW was also taken to hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

Police said the two men arrested, aged 36 and 39, are both local to the area and are being held at a Norfolk police station.

The crash happened between the Hopton roundabout and the James Paget Hospital in Gorleston. Police have appealed for witnesses to contact them.
