Five year term for drugs offences

A man has been jailed for five years after he admitted possessing class A drugs and money laundering.

Larry Mayes was found flushing drugs down his bath's plughole by police when they raided his home in Mariners Way, Kings Lynn, Norwich Crown Court heard.

The court heard how the 47-year-old accumulated about £300,000 through drug dealing and had attempted to conceal his proceeds by buying a car.

A confiscation hearing will be held at a later date.

Mayes admitting possessing heroin, and five offences of concealing criminal property which included cash into different building society accounts and concealing property by buying a £19,845 Saab motor car.

The court heard how when police raided his home in February they found Mayes in his bathroom in his dressing gown with the water running, and he said he was about to take a bath.

A police dog then found £180 worth of heroin near an outside drain.

During the search, police found a locked safe concealed behind a wardrobe containing nine packages each containing £10,000 in cash, and more than £5,000 of jewellery.

Sentencing, Judge Downes, said: "There seems to be a connection between large sums of money and drugs although we cannot say precisely how much."
