Governors reject plan for academy
Governors of a Norwich high school have rejected plans to close it and turn it into an academy.

Proposals to re-develop Heartsease school are currently being discussed by parents, teachers and residents.

One option was to keep the school open, with 500 to 600 students, maintaining its specialist engineering status.

The other plan was to close the school and establish an academy specialising in engineering and the environment but a governors' meeting has rejected this.

A statement from the education authority, Norfolk County Council, said: "After considerable discussion and debate, the governing body of Heartsease High School has, by a majority vote, decided not to support the closure of the school and its replacement by a proposed academy."
