Pupils access lessons from home via an e-learning scheme
Pupils faced with missing exams this summer because of sickness, exclusion, pregnancy or motherhood were able to sit them online at home.

Norfolk County Council has been using e-education techniques to ensure these pupils did not miss out.

The young people were able to learn the curriculum and sit their exams at home.

The Norfolk e-learning scheme supports 100 children through online lessons, one-on-one sessions with teachers and in interactive classrooms.

The scheme is delivering about 750 hours of education per week to children on a range of subjects from maths, science and English, to art and small animal care.

A county council spokeswoman said: "The interactive classroom allows youngsters to raise a virtual hand in class, speak to their peers and listen to what the teacher and other members of the class are saying via a headset.

"The teacher in turn can keep an eye on the progress of the student and assess how much they are doing through an in-class monitor.

"The class cannot see the e-learner's image but can see a symbol representing the child and can work in groups with the e-learner via the computer."
