Memorial service held for soldier

Cpl Bonner had been planning to get married
Friends and colleagues of a soldier who was killed in an explosion in Afghanistan have held a memorial ceremony for him.

Cpl Darren Bonner, 31, from Gorleston in Norfolk, was serving with the 1st Battalion Royal Anglian Regiment.

The soldier died in an explosion in the Gereshk region of Helmand as his convoy came under attack.

The ceremony for Cpl Bonner was held at St George's Park in Yarmouth on Sunday afternoon.

Cpl Bonner was planning to get married and buy a house in Great Yarmouth at the end of his duty in Afghanistan.

The 31-year-old was described by his company commander as a man who had "huge emotional intelligence".

Cpl Bonner was described by soldiers who had served with him as "the life and soul of the company".
