Art creations made from recycled debris have put Anglian Water in line for a top national award.

The water company has funded a range of sculptures depicting river life and all are made from shopping trolleys dragged from waterways across the region.

This River Care Project is a contender in the Best of British Industry Awards, sponsored by the Sunday Times.

The sculptures, by world-renowned artist Ptolemy Elrington, highlight the effects of rubbish dumped in waterways.

Project support

The shopping trolleys were dragged from rivers, canals, waterways and drainage channels across the area where Anglian Water provides water services.

Dan Baker from Anglian Water said: "Since the shopping trolley art campaign in the summer, the number of hits on the River Care website has more than doubled and around a dozen new River Care groups are now in the pipeline.

"People are seeing beyond these amazing sculptures and sending us a clear message, that they support our River Care Project and want to get involved".

The winners of the Best of British Industry Awards will be announced at the Tate Modern on 8 February 2007.
