New police chief constable named
Ian McPherson
Ian McPherson has worked for forces in Merseyside and Yorkshire
A new chief constable has been appointed to head Norfolk Police, three months after controversial merger plans were scrapped by the Home Office.

The current police chief Carole Howlett retires at the end of the year.

Ian McPherson, who started his police career with the Lancashire force in 1979, will take over in January.

Under the defunct plans to pool forces with Cambridgeshire and Suffolk, the chief constable position would have moved to a regional centre.

Mr McPherson has previously worked with Merseyside and North Yorkshire police forces.
