Man charged after rural car chase

A 20-year-old man has been arrested after a high-speed car chase across Norfolk on Saturday.

The pursuit started when a vehicle failed to stop at as police check point in the Watton area.

The driver headed for Attleborough and drove through the town before abandoning the vehicle at the nearby village of Besthorpe.

Police said James Smith, 20, of Thetford, was charged with dangerous driving and other motoring offences.

He is due to appear at Thetford Magistrates' Court on Monday 15 May.

A police helicopter kept in contact with the vehicle and its driver throughout the chase.
