Suspect item leads to evacuation

A number of homes were evacuated on Sunday when a suspicious package was discovered near Diss police station.

Residents in and around the Stanley Road area near the station had to leave their homes and move to the Park House Hotel, as a temporary refuge.

The package was eventually made safe as a precautionary measure, a Norfolk police spokesman said.

Supt Sarah Francis said: "We are gathering forensic evidence and also determining if this was a prank."
