Thieves fled empty-handed twice in one hour on Saturday night - in Norfolk's third aborted ram raid in three days.
They tried but failed to steal the cash machine at a sweet shop in Earlham Road, Norwich, then had to abandon the car used to smash their way in.
The same gang is thought have gone on to try to raid a shop in Hemsby.
In the early hours of Friday, raiders managed to jam a cash machine in the shattered doorway of a BP filling station in Salhouse Road, Norwich.
