Campaigns to crack down on crime brought success
Crime rates are down for the third year running in Norwich, Broadland and South Norfolk according to police figures.

Between 1 April 2005, and 31 March 2006 164 fewer offences of violence were reported than in the previous year, which amounts to a reduction of 3%.

Robberies fell 5% and home burglaries by 4% but the largest reductions were in crime at business premises which dropped by 236 incidents - 14% down.

There were also 302 fewer vehicle crimes amounting to a fall of 11%.

Sup Jim Smerdon said: "Crimes like burglary are actually at a third of what they were three or four years ago.

"Police projects and operations have also had a huge impact in helping us to reduce violence against the person."
