Open alley gates let in burglars

Residents found gates helped to cut burglaries
Burglaries have suddenly increased in a city area where police have promoted the installation of security gates on entries to backs of houses.

In the heavily terraced "golden triangle" area of Norwich alley gates were introduced because the homes were a popular target for burglaries.

But now some are being left open and break-ins are on the increase again.

Norfolk Police officers will be in the area on Sunday afternoon and evening to check the gates and talk to residents.

Sgt Graham Dalton said: "Some people are becoming complacent about locking the gates and are leaving them open - especially on Sundays.

"This is an open invitation to burglars and thieves and we want to get this message across to residents."
