Manslaughter boss case deferred
MW White, Ketteringham
A foreman died in a paper shredder at a recycling plant
The boss of a paper-recycling firm who admitted manslaughter after the death of one of his workers has had a sentencing hearing deferred to October.

Victim Kevin Arnup died when he was sucked into a paper-shredding machine.

Father-of-three Mr Arnup, 36, had been trying to unblock the machine at M V White's Ketteringham recycling plant in Norfolk, in December 2003.

Managing director Paul White, 42, admitted manslaughter during a hearing at Norwich Crown Court last month.

The managing director and the firm have also admitted breaches of health and safety law.

Mr Arnup, 36, of Thorpe Hamlet in Norwich was the foreman at the plant.

The court heard the mains current should have been switched off on the machine before anyone tried to clear a blockage.

However, it was common practice for this rule to be ignored both by workers and by White himself.

White will re-appear at Norwich Crown Court at date, which is yet to be fixed in October.
