Fire destroys large forest area
Thetford forest fire
More than five hectares of Thetford Forest were destroyed
A series of blazes that destroyed large areas of Thetford Forest in Norfolk could have been started deliberately, firefighters believe.

Twelve crews were called to tackle a fire on land near the golf club on Brandon Road and found several others areas nearby were in flames too.

Fire service manager Richard Herrell said: "Five hectares (12 acres) of forest were destroyed.

"After investigating other smaller blazes we think it is suspicious."

Separate fires in the forest were so far from the seat of the original blaze they cannot be put down to spread, the firefighter said.
