A murder inquiry has been launched following the death of a 95-year-old World War II veteran who was attacked during a robbery at his home.

Ralph Platten was watching TV in his house at St Michaels Sutton, Norfolk, on Tuesday afternoon when he heard the doorbell ring.

He was then confronted by a gang who forced him to the floor where he was held down by one of them.

He died on Wednesday at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital.

Police said the raiders searched the kitchen and bedroom of Mr Platten's house and asked where he kept his money.

One of the men is described as aged between 30 and 40 years, about 5ft 9in tall, wearing a black woollen hat and with accent that has been described as not local.
