Police chief job advertised again
Andy Hayman
Norfolk Police are finding it difficult to replace Andy Hayman
Norfolk police are to be without a permanent chief constable for months after they were forced to readvertise.

The post became vacant after Andy Hayman took over a security role with the Met Police earlier this year.

Carole Howlett from the Met took over as temporary chief constable while a new chief constable was found.

Peter Gibley, head of Norfolk Police Authority, said: "We received only two applications and a minimum of three is required before we can interview."

The police authority are offering a salary for the new job of more than £115,000 which is small in comparison to other forces.

But Mr Gibley also said that there were not enough officers of the right calibre around at this time and this was a barrier to recruitment by all forces.

"We will advertise the post in late summer so it will be some time before we get a permanent replacement.

"But we are pleased with Ms Howlett who is delighted to be in Norfolk in the meantime."
