Reprieve for pub's music licence
Norfolk band Cord
The pub is a popular venue with local bands like Cord
Live music at a popular riverside venue in Norwich has been saved.

The Ferry Boat, on King Street, has hosted live performances since the 1970s but owners of recently-built nearby flats complained about noise.

Officials had recommended the pub's performance licence should not be renewed by the licensing committee.

On Tuesday members allowed the renewal to go-ahead on the condition that soundproofing was improved and efforts were made to stop annoying neighbours.

'Too loud'

Some complained to Norwich City Council that live music was being played far too loud and disturbing their peace.

The pub has been the breeding ground for many bands including local favourites Cord and Bearsuit.

Music fans said it was one of the few venues where local bands could play and about 200 gathered outside City Hall at lunchtime in support of the landlord Alan Thorpe.

The licensing committee gave Mr Thorpe three months to improve soundproofing and install air conditioning.
