Fog blamed for multiple crashes
A47 crashes
Police said it was the worst incident on the county's roads in 10 years
More than 20 vehicles were involved in collisions in dense fog on the A47 in Norfolk on Tuesday evening.

The crashes were in three clusters on a stretch of road near the Costessey bypass outside Norwich.

Two motorists had to be cut free from their vehicles and at least seven people were taken to hospital for treatment.

Police closed the road in both directions until the scene was cleared. Crash investigations have begun.

A police spokesman said the multiple crashes were the worst incident on the road for a decade and it was lucky that no-one had been killed.

On Wednesday forecasters said more fog was on the way.
