Green council to gain top award
Northampton Borough Council is to receive an award in recognition of its switch to green electricity.

The government has set targets that require at least 15% of all UK electricity consumption to come from renewable sources by 2015.

All of the council's major offices and car parks are now being supplied with green electricity.

A council spokesman said he hopes companies across the town will follow its lead.

The council's sustainable development chairman, Michael Hill, said: "The use of green electricity is just one way in which we can practice sustainable development and I hope companies throughout Northampton will follow the borough council's lead in this important area."

The award will be presented at the Guildhall on 14 December.
