Violence-hit city bar can reopen

A nightspot in Liverpool which was closed on the advice of police has been given the go ahead to reopen.

Pink Bar, in Victoria Street, had its licence suspended in October after officers presented a dossier of evidence showing violence and disorder.

Allegations that underage girls performed sex acts on door staff to secure entry were also made.

Liverpool's licensing sub-committee said the bar could reopen if a new door supervisor was hired.

Police conditions

As part of the conditions to regain the licence managers must also close the bar by 0200 GMT, rather than 0400 GMT.

Managers must also introduce plastic bottles and extend the CCTV system to cover the washing area of the toilets.

The hearing, which took place on Tuesday, was told that Merseyside Police had met with management to address the problems.

Officers felt the conditions they had established would help tackle the issues at the premises, the committee heard.

Pink, a well-known gay friendly bar in the city, is now expected to reopen in December.
