Talks over arena's drinks policy

Morrissey walked off stage after being hit by a plastic container

Council chiefs are to meet with managers of Liverpool's Echo Arena to discuss its drinks policy after a missile was thrown at singer Morrissey.

The concert was stopped when the former frontman of The Smiths walked off stage after he was hit by a plastic container thrown from the crowd on Saturday.

Liverpool City Council said it fears artists could boycott the arena if crowd behaviour problems continue.

Security procedures are also due to be discussed at the meeting later.

But the arena's chief executive Bob Pratty has said the policy in Liverpool is no different from other arenas across the UK.

Promoters, SJM Concerts, were forced to offer refunds to gig- goers after Morrissey walked off six minutes into the concert when he was struck by the plastic container.
