Dog looking for big enough home

Rocky the great dane cross
Rocky cannot go to a home that already has dogs

A great dane cross that towers above 6ft when on his hind legs is struggling to find a big enough home.

Two people from Cheshire Dogs Home have to walk four-year-old Rocky using two leads because he is so strong.

He has been living at the Warrington refuge since June after his previous owners no longer had the space.

Fiona Hopkinson, who works at the kennels, said he was one of the biggest dogs they had looked after and was proving difficult to re-home.

Rocky, who is crossed with a mastiff, weighs in at 75kg (11st 8lb), the average weight of a man.

'Lovely nature'

"He gets a bit lonely sometimes because we have to keep him in a kennel that would normally house three dogs," Ms Hopkinson said.

"He's just so big, but he has a lovely nature and would make a lovely companion for the right family.

"We have to make sure that he is given the right home because he is just so big and powerful.

"He can't go to a home that already has dogs or young children because there's a risk he could just overpower them.

"The family that used to have him said they could no longer look after him because they already had eight children with another on the way."

Anyone interested in taking on Rocky should contact the dogs home.
