A special service to mark the departure of the Bishop of Warrington has been taking place at Liverpool Cathedral.

The Bishop of Liverpool, the Right Reverend James Jones, was leading the ceremony to mark Right Reverend David Jennings' retirement.

The Bishop of Warrington is the second most senior Church of England clergyman in the Diocese of Liverpool.

The Venerable Richard Blackburn is to take on the position when he is consecrated on 3 November.

Bishop Jones said: "Bishop David has excelled in all that he has done for the diocese. His tireless service has been a model for us all. His care of the clergy, the parishes and the schools has made a huge impact on the Diocese."
