A private school teacher on Merseyside has appeared in court accused of sexual misconduct with a 17-year-old pupil.

Hannah McIntyre, 25, a classics teacher at Merchant Taylors' Boys' School in Crosby, pleaded not guilty to abusing her position of trust.

Miss McIntyre, of Winstanley Road, Waterloo, was bailed when she appeared at South Sefton Magistrates' Court.

She was suspended from the £2,727-a term school after being charged in January following a police probe.

Ms McIntyre will next appear in court on 22 September.

Past Merchant Taylors' pupils include former Archbishop of Canterbury Robert Runcie and is among the top secondary schools in the region.

The school, which was established in 1620, enjoyed a 100% GCSE pass rate last year.
