Six men and four teenage boys accused of the murder of a teenage Army cadet who was stabbed to death in Liverpool have appeared in court.

Joseph Lappin, 16, was stabbed in the heart after being chased near the Shrewsbury House Youth Club in Everton in October 2008.

His friend Callum Naden, 17, was also stabbed but survived the attack.

At Liverpool Magistrates' Court, the 10, charged with murder and attempted murder, were remanded in custody.

They will next appear at Liverpool Crown Court on 31 July.

Joseph and Callum had been waiting for a lift home when they were attacked.

The cadet, a member of the Liverpool Scottish Regiment, received a fatal knife wound and Callum was stabbed twice.

The six men charged, all from the Vauxhall area, are Colin Cain, 20, of Barmouth Way, Anthony Smith, 22, of Heriot Street, Anthony Preston, 21, of Eldonian Way, Colin Yell, 21, of Snowdon Lane, John McDonald, 21, of Wilcock Close and Thomas Riding, 18, of Houlgrave Road.

Four youths, also from Vauxhall, cannot be named for legal reasons.
