Ten people have been charged with the murder of a teenage Army cadet who was stabbed to death in Liverpool.

Joseph Lappin, 16, was stabbed in the heart after being chased near the Shrewsbury House Youth Club in Everton in October 2008.

Joseph's friend Callum Naden, 17, was also stabbed but survived the attack.

Six men and four teenagers have been charged with Joseph's murder and causing Callum Naden grievous bodily harm, Merseyside Police said.

An 18-year-old man, a 20-year-old, three 21-year-olds and a 22-year-old, all from Vauxhall, are due before Liverpool magistrates on Thursday.

Joseph had been enjoying his first night at the youth club with friends and he and Callum were waiting for a lift home when they were attacked.

The cadet, a member of the Liverpool Scottish Regiment, received a fatal knife wound and Callum was stabbed twice.
